Während Cut Copy derzeit zusammen mit Holy Ghost! durch die US of A touren, bin ich immer noch in tiefer Trauer ob des verpassten Konzertes im Kölner Gebäude 9. Als kleines Trostpflaster haben beide Bands derzeit jeweils einen kostenlosen MP3-Download im Angebot.

Von den Australieren gibt es ihre aktuelle Single “Need You Now”, “imagined as a classic Roy Orbison record” von ihren Landsleuten Architecture In Helsinki. Holy Ghost! spendieren euch mit “Wait & See” einen Track von ihrem kürzlich erschienen Debütalbum.

Kurzfilm: Chernokids

Mein persönlicher Kurzfilm der Woche: Chernokids. Im Mittelpunkt steht eine Gruppe mutierter Kinder eines Waisenhauses, die in ihrer Fantasie den Reaktor in Tschernobyl als ihre Mutter ansehen. Derzeit ja aus leider tragischem Anlass ein hochaktuelles Sujet.

This short is about resilience, the way (mostly) children fight back after a traumatic experience, in our case, turning their handicap and lives into a childhood fantasy.

Kurzfilm: Blinky™

Ich habe lange gezögert, den Roboter-Kurzfilm Blinky™ hier zu bringen, da er mir nach dem ersten Betrachten nicht sonderlich zusagte und ihn mittlerweile eh schon wirklich alle hatten. Nach einer erneuten Sichtung bin ich allerdings der Meinung, dass sich die 12 Minuten die das Filmchen beansprucht, durchaus lohnen und ich es deshalb auch bei mir im Blog haben will. Blinky™ stammt vom irischen Filmemacher Ruairi Robinson, dessen Kurzfilm “Fifty Percent Grey” ihm bereits eine Oscar-Nominierung einbrachte. In der Hauptrolle ist Max Records zu sehen, den einige aus Spike Jonze’s “Where The Wild Things Are” Verfilmung kennen dürften.

True Legend

“True Legend” ist die erste Regiearbeit von Martial Arts Choreograf und Regie-Legende Yuen Woo Ping seit über 14 Jahren und zugleich auch Chinas erster 3D Film. Die Festival-Reviews sind bislang zwar bestenfalls mittelprächtig, aber der Trailer sieht nach einem unterhaltsamen Kung Fu Spektakel aus.

Yuen Woo Ping (The Matrix trilogy, Kill Bill Volumes I and II, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero) brings you True Legend, a heart pounding epic about the timeless battle between good and evil. Su Can’s (Vincent Zhao) respectable life is obliterated when his vengeful brother, Yuan (Andy On), returns from war armed with the deadly Five Venom Fists. Weakened but not destroyed, Su Can learns a never-before-seen form of martial arts: the Drunken Fist. Armed with this new power, he returns home to honor his family through retribution by taking on his brother in a battle to become the ultimate warrior. Midnight In Paris Trailer

Der Trailer zum neuen Woody Allen Film “Midnight In Paris” sieht aus wie, nun ja, wie Trailer zu Woody Allen Filmen dieser Tage eben so aussehen. Dass die Qualität der Streifen, die der Altmeister nach wie vor beharrlich im Jahrestakt raushaut, stark variiert, ist kein Geheimnis. Irgendwie glaube ich aber, diesmal könnte wieder etwas überwiegend Gutes dabei herauskommen, was vermutlich in erster Linie daran liegt, dass mir der Cast um Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody und Marion Cotillard sehr zusagt.

0000 Teaser Trailer

Bevor ich nähere auf den ersten Teaser zum mysteriösen Indie-Sci-Fi-Film “0000″ eingehe, muss ich zunächst mal eine Textpassage von Twitch zitieren:

The great shame of science fiction is that a genre supposedly devoted to possibility – to exploring infinite worlds by simply asking ‘what if’ – so easily slips into just a small handful of subgenres. Instead of truly exploring new ideas and new worlds too many creators of science fiction are content to simply offer up variations on already well established themes. It’s a waste, really.

Das trifft in meinen Augen den Nagel aber sowas von genau auf den Kopf: Wie viele innovative Sci-Fi-Filme aus den vergangenen 10 Jahren, die Genre-Konventionen sprengen, neue Ideen umsetzen statt alte aufzukochen und sich mehr durch Inhalt und Story als Effekthascherei auszeichnen fallen euch denn spontan ein? Also bei mir sind es nicht viele…

Aus diesem Grund bin ich dankbar für potentielle kleine Genre-Perlen wie “0000″, über dessen Inhalt sich anhand des Teasers und der Kurzbeschreibung zwar noch nicht allzu viel sagen lässt, aber um Sci-Fi-Einheitsbrei handelt es sich dabei definitiv nicht.

13 Assassins Trailer

13 Assassins

Pünktlich zur VOD-Veröffentlichung von Takashi Miikes “13 Assassins” Remake (der übrigens derzeit auch hierzulande auf den Fantasy Filmfest Nights gezeigt wird), wurde dem Samurai-Streifen ein ziemlich bösärschiger Trailer spendiert.

Cult director Takeshi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition) delivers a bravado period action film set at the end of Japan’s feudal era in which a group of unemployed samurai are enlisted to bring down a sadistic lord and prevent him from ascending to the throne and plunging the country into a wartorn future.

Sympathy For Delicious Trailer

Die Zutaten beim Drama “Sympathy For Delicious” stimmen eigentlich alle: es ist das Regiedebüt des von mir sehr geschätzten Mark Ruffalo, die Besetzung ist mit Orlando Bloom, Juliette Lewis und Mark Ruffalo selbst hochkarätig und der Film hat auf dem diesjährigen Sundance den Spezialpreis der Jury eingeheimst. Um so überraschender ist es, dass mich der Trailer so gar nicht überzeugen konnte…

Recently paralyzed DJ “Delicious” Dean battles the mean streets of Los Angeles, struggling to survive in his wheelchair. Yearning to walk again, and fighting to spark the ashes that were once his career, Dean turns to the dubious world of faith healing and gets much more than he bargained for. Lured by easy money and the heat of fame, Dean sells out to an unstable rock band, stomping the dreams of so many who see him as their only hope. World-famous DJ “Delicious” must now tackle his own worst demon-himself-if he is ever to conquer his “handicap” and find true healing.

Captain America: The First Avenger Trailer

Nach dem Superbowl-Spot nun der erste Trailer zu “Captain America: The First Avenger”, und dieser gefällt mir wesentlich besser, als ich erwartet hatte. Die Optik erinnert mich ein wenig an “The Rocketeer” oder “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow”, was durchaus positiv zu verstehen ist.

“Captain America: The First Avenger” will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving.)

Schön bunter und schräger Trailer zum Neo-Noir “The Big Bang” mit Antonio Banderas in der Hauptrolle als Privatdetektiv. Der restliche Cast setzt sich aus vielen von mir gern gesehenen Gesichtern zusammen, mit von der Partie sind unter anderem anderem William Fichtner, Sam Elliott, Autumn Reeser, Jimmi Simpson, James Van Der Beek, Rebecca Mader und Snoop Dogg.

Late one night, Los Angeles private investigator, Ned Cruz (Antonio Banderas) gets a visit from a recently paroled Russian boxer with an intriguing job offer: find Lexie, his missing girlfriend—and the 30-million dollar stash of diamonds she’s hiding. As Detective Cruz sets out to find her, the clues send him into the city’s seediest corners, from a Hollywood action star with a dirty little secret (James Van Der Beek), to an enterprising porn producer who takes a personal interest in his own work (Snoop Dogg), and a kinky waitress with an unusual fetish for particle physics (Autumn Reeser). Lexie proves to be as elusive as she is beautiful and Cruz becomes obsessed with finding her. With time running out, Cruz discovers the trail leads to reclusive billionaire (Sam Elliott), and his physicist (Jimmi Simpson), intent on recreating The Big Bang underneath the New Mexico desert. Tailed by a trio of cops also looking to find the missing diamonds, and with the body count piling up, Cruz soon realizes that what appeared to be a standard missing person’s case is anything but, and could quite possibly bring about the end of the world as we know it.

Dinoshark Trailer

Schlechte Filme gibt es ja bekanntlich zur Genüge. Und dann gibt es immer mal wieder solche, die so schlecht sind, dass sie schon wieder Spaß machen. In diese Kategorie scheint dem Trailer nach zu urteilen auch “Dinoshark” zu fallen, denn ich habe bei dessen Sichtung bereits Tränen gelacht. Alleine schon Roger Corman als “the world’s only expert on the Dinoshark” ist einfach zu gut.

Local captain Trace McGraw (Eric Balfour – “24”, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Skyline) and marine biologist Carol (Iva Hasperger – “CSI”, “Cold Case”) seem to be the only ones convinced that the creature terrorizing their shores is something other than the expected man-eating shark. They enlist the help of the world’s only expert on the Dinoshark (Roger Corman himself). Together, will they be able to reel Dinoshark in?
